Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with an August release date. Movie memories are memories about a particular movie that you have seen with friends and what happened leading up to and after the movie but not necessarily a movie review.
G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra
The unemployment crew went to see this one together. Sarah set up the viewing of the movie and we all met up at the theater to see it.
The show itself was OK, I was not very impressed with the overall action/dialogue, but it was nice to see the cartoon make it on the big screen.
Afterwards we went to grab some pizza together - well, one person grabbed pizza the rest of us just sat around watching him eat. Then we went down to Starbucks where I had a conversation with Chris and then after he left read my book while sitting with Norm and his friend Tim (I think). Overall it was a nice time.
Julie & Julia
I saw this one with Dan, we took an early show - there were tons of old ladies there.
The movie was fun and delicious. I wanted to go home and bake and stew and generally just make yummy stuff to eat but instead we went to Cheesecake factory where we had yummy foods.
District 9
Eddie and I caught this film. At first I wasn't really sure I wanted to go see it, however, we ended up watching it and I loved it.
I found the style it was filmed in - documentary - was pretty cool and the story was bittersweet. It left an opening for a sequel and I would definitely go watch the sequel.
Afterward, Eddie came back to my home and we had chinese food. Then later Becky came over and she was studying while I was on my laptop and Eddie was playing my guitar. We made some mug brownies and had it with icecream ... yummy.
Inglourious Basterds
Another one of the unemployment crew movie time. A few of us - and some employed folks who skipped work - caught this one in Forest Hills.
I am surprised to say that I loved this movie. The dialogue was witty and the pace was good. There was some gore but it wasn't too much to distract.
We all parted ways afterward, I think this was the last movie the unemployed group will see together. Most of us are now somewhat employed.

Movie Memories - July 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with a July release date. Movie memories are memories about a particular movie that you have seen with friends and what happened leading up to and after the movie but not necessarily a movie review.
July was a bit of a weird movie month. Let's take a shot at it and see what we find.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
I went with my brother, sister and two cousins to see this movie. We went into the theater to find that not only did we get a cheap price, but we also ended up sitting with tons of day campers. That's right, we saw the movie with a bunch of kids who couldn't keep quiet and went "oooooooh" at any romantic scene.
While I have always enjoyed Harry Potter movies, this one was a little bittersweet. I think the movie was a great movie for all the people who just watch the movies and do not read the book, however, they added a few things that weren't really necessary and took some things out which I really wanted them to portray in the movie. The biggest thing was they botched up the Harry/Ginny first kiss scene. I mean, come on people, the entire book literally lead up to that romantic moment and you had to go and ruin it? For shame. I am looking forward to the last two movies. We'll see how those go.
The Ugly Truth
A few of us went to see this movie on a Saturday and we made a little event out of it. First, about eight of us from NL ate at the Apple Bee's and then we met up with a few more and went into the theater. They were showing it on two screens and some went in early to save seats only to see that the theater was packed, however, a few of us who were waiting on the others to come heard about the second screening and went into that theater and saw it was practically empty! So we called up our mates and took that one over.
The movie itself was not that great. It had it's funny pieces but it was just so crass and unnecessary that it was hard to really pay attention to whatever the message was.
Afterwards we all headed on home, it was a long afternoon, it was a good day.
Funny People
I went to see this one with Michelle, Monty, Mike and Frankie. I met them at the theater and Frankie got in trouble with some old ladies. It was quite amusing, he was saving a seat for someone else and another old lady decided to sit down in that seat and he told her no, that he was saving it and so she moved. However, she was mumbling about how he could have told her before she sat down and the first old lady who was already sitting there turned to her and agreed and then said, "He says he's saving it for a friend, must be some invisible friend."
Later, the person he was saving it for came in but she had another person with her and they couldn't sit there. So Frankie had to sit in the row with the two grumpy old women. Just a funny note, one of the women met up with her friend after (who was sitting elsewhere) and they snuck into another show.
The show itself was a bit depressing. There were jokes - guy jokes - but the story was a depressing story about real life. I did enjoy the movie even though I thought it was a little on the long side.
That's about it. Not a lot of movies viewed in July, but we did a lot of outdoors stuff so I guess it's OK! =)

Movie Memories - June 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with a June release date. Movie memories are memories about a particular movie that you have seen with friends and what happened leading up to and after the movie but not necessarily a movie review.
My Life In Ruins
Rosanne, Jenny and I walked to the theater near Metropolitan in FH to see this one. It was a cute little chick flick but of course, very predictable.
After the movie we waited an hour to get seated to eat Mexican food - in which time Eddie came by to join us - and we listed to Rosanne tell us about her Swedish trip!
The Proposal
I remember going with Jenny and Pauline. We were in the theater and in the middle of the movie something funny happens and I laugh SO hard that I started crying. Tears were streaming down my eyes I couldn't stop laughing.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
A large group of us went to see this on opening weekend. The movie itself was ok. After the movie some of us went to try to get mexican food but it was close to closing so we went to Cheeburger Cheeburger and got some burgers. It was a fun time!
My Sister's Keeper
A few of met at Apple Bee's to have some dinner. We then went across to the Gap to torment Pauline into trying on some skirts/dresses. After that we drove to the theater to see the movie.
The movie was a tear jerker but I managed to not shed any tears. I did not read the book but heard that it varied a lot from the book though it was still good.

Movie Memories - May 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with a May release date.
X-Men Origin: Wolverine
Pauline and I went to an early showing of this movie. We were one of the few people in the theater. There were two other people, one came in after us and chose to sit right behind us. Pauline and I were making our comments and she shushed us! SHUSHED US! I mean, the theater was empty, we were not loud, she chose to sit right behind us, I cannot help it if she wants to sit behind us in an empty theater and can hear us.
We definitely enjoyed the movie though, all those new mutants, all those powers, all those um ... hot guys.
Ghost of Girlfriends Past
Jenny, Pauline, Mary and I went to see this one. We had a quick lunch at a Panera Bread and then got to the theater in time to see the movie.
It was cute, and enjoyable. There were a lot of jokes and such, but all in all it was a chick flick and in the end, the guy gets the girl (or girl gets the guy).
Star Trek
I saw this with a bunch of NLers. There was one point in the movie where we all raised our hands and said, "Live long and Prosper!" Ah yes, we are dorks. The movie was great and I would have seen it again in theaters.
Later we had Martha's while standing in front of the store.
Terminator Salvation
I saw this with Dan. We went an early afternoon and then later on, because he was feeling stressed, I decided to just go driving. We ended up at Montauk where we climbed rocks and sung on the giant swing.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
After walking around flushing with Erik to get something to eat, him and I decided to go to the theater to see this movie.
The movie was cute and I was laughing a lot towards the end. After that we just headed on home.
Up
I saw this movie with Eddie, Pauline and Dan. Apparently I got the movie time wrong and so we had an hour to kill, which we did, like any LIer would, in the 7-11.
The movie was cute, but so sad! It was amazing that a Disney movie would be so real in the hurt (even if not the actual events that occurred).

Movie Memories - April 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with an April release date.
Hannah Montana: The Movie
Don't judge me. That's all I have to say to this movie choice. Pauline and I went to see this when it was almost out of theaters. We were the only two people watching the movie. We made a lot of silly comments and laughed a LOT.
The movie was cute and predictable, but it was still pretty fun to watch and to see all the lovely country scenes and hear all the songs. Of course, after the movie was over I had to do a bit of the Hoedown Throwdown.
Earth
It was for Earth day. Pauline, Dan and I caught a very late showing of this movie. I had wanted to see it so I asked them to come with me. I took Pauline and we met Dan at the movies. He didn't have his cell phone on him and we were cutting it pretty close to the start when he came dashing in.
It was so beautiful watching the different seasons pass through the earth as well as the animals and best of all the animal babies.
Afterward we had some waffle fries and I had egg cream at a local diner.
The Soloist
Dan and I went to see this one. We did a run in the park - my first run but I didn't make it to the end - and got some food and hung around a park then went to watch the movie.
The movie was pretty intense, it was a very interesting and different story and afterward I wanted to look up the true story.
I believe we had Chili's after, it was Dan's first time.

Movie Memories - March 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with a March release date.
Watchmen
There were about 17 of us. Some of us went to have dim sum after church, others went other places. My group did the dim sum then red mango and then we went over to the theater. My brother was with us since he wanted to see the movie. We took up an entire row of seats!
The movie was quite good, except for parts that seemed unnecessary, but I suppose they kept pretty close to the comics.
Afterward we all went to 5 Guy Burger to have some burger and fries. This was the first time I've been there and so it was a little entertaining to me. I mean, free peanuts! woot woot!
The Knowing
I saw this movie in Manila. Hewan and I were walking the Mall of Asia in Manila and we decided to catch a flick while we waited out our time to get on our flight to Guam. We both had our big backpacks and so people were staring at us all the time. We got into the theater and found a seat. There was no one sitting next to me and so I put our bags on that seat so it wouldn't get in the way. About 15 minutes into the movie these three people came in and the guy tried to sit on our bags!!! I told him to wait I'll move the bags and he did wait for me to move one then he was trying to sit on the second one! It was amusing, finally I got the bags out of the way for him to sit.
The movie was better than I expected it to be, and the ending, though different, I actually liked.
Afterwards we went to a few stores and then caught our flight to Guam.
Monsters vs. Aliens
While laid over in Guam, Hewan and I decided to catch this flick. The price for the 3D was lower than the price of a regular ticket in NY. We were one of the few people in the theater. Half way through the movie this little girl started walking around and then about 3/4s of the way through she started talking to me and asking me about the things in my bag and started going through my purse. Yes ... I made a friend in Guam.
The movie was cute, very predictable, but cute nonetheless. After we were done with the movie we just walked the mall a bit and then went back to the hotel to prepare for our flight to Hawaii.

Movie Memories - February 2009 Releases
Continuing from this post. It's time to tackle the movies with a February release date.
Coraline
The first I saw Coraline it was not in 3D and it was with my sister at a theater that was close by us. I loved it. It's just so different, Neil Gaiman is a great story teller. I could tell from the movie that the 3D version might be spectacular and so I was longing to watch the 3D version. I had made one attempt to see it with Dan but we saw Taken instead. The next day he found a theater that was still showing it in 3D and we went to see it.
Coraline is a bit on the long side but I did like the 3D version. It turned out to be just a few of us watching again.
Afterwards I went to the supermarket to get some flowers and stuff to make cupcakes. It was my grandma's birthday and my mom's birthday and that was the plan for the rest of the afternoon.
He's Just Not That Into You
I saw this movie with a bunch of NLers. I met them after church and we went to Forest Hills to the Johnny Rockets to grab a bite to eat. A few guys were with us, but most of them bailed and in the end only three guys braved the movie with us (D, B and P) two of of the three coming with their significant other. Later the fourth guy - F - joined our ranks. He tried to get to the seat that we were keeping for him, but these little old ladies refused to let him through! He had to hop over them, it was one of the funniest things ever. He was polite, so I'm not sure why the ladies did not want him to pass, he was not disturbing them, the movie had not yet started!
Afterward we had a little ... situation ... with one of the females that attended the showing, she was reminiscing a past relationship, so when she ran away from the group, me and another followed and when I saw the other had it under control I went back to the group to do some damage control. We went to a dessert place to have some yummy desert and talk about the movie - whether or not it's true - and called it a night.
Push
I saw this movie in theaters with Pauline. Her and I caught an early show. The movie was great and afterward I can't remember if we just hung out at Panera (hehe) or if I took her home. We hung out so much that it's quite a blur to me now, but all good times.
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Jenny was sick and while she was home and feeling just slightly better I decided to take her to see this little chick flick. I don't think we enjoyed it much! It was cute but so cheesy, however, we had a good time hanging out together.
Afterwards I took her back home, she needed her rest!
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li
I saw this in Forest Hills with some NLers. We had some pizza beforehand at a pizza shop near the theater.
This one such a corny movie! I was sitting next to Eddie who just kept laughing through the entire movie because of it's corniness! Actually, the guy sitting in front of us kept laughing through the entire movie as well.
I'm not sure we did anything afterward, I suppose if we did it would have been Martha's or the other dessert place, but whatever we did we definitely made fun of the film.

Movie Memories - January 2009 Releases
I've been keeping track of all the movies I've seen this year on my other blog. It struck me today that these movies weren't just fun in the theaters, they were memories made with Good friends. I knew there was a reason I didn't like going to the movies alone. =)
Memories sometimes fade with time and so I am cataloging those memories here.
Ink Heart
I went to see Ink Heart at an AMC theater close by. This was my first experience at this little theater, it was once a Lowes and it only has a few screens. I went with my brother and my sister around 7pm at night. We were three of a few people sitting in the theater.
My brother was being antisocial, he was sitting in the back on his phone making stupid comments here and there. I'm not entirely sure why he came to the movies with us, but I am glad that we all got to spend some time together.
I've read Ink Heart by Cornelia Funke and I loved the series so I was rather excited to see it portrayed on film. I didn't quite get into the film as I did the book, but they stayed as true to the book as they could within the space of two hours.
Afterwards we went back home, it was a school night and they had school the next day.
Taken
I had seen this movie before the official release, I enjoyed it. When I saw it in theaters I wasn't really going to see it, I actually wanted to see Coraline in 3D. I was IMing with my friend Dan and he wanted to see Coraline as well, so he came over to my house and we drove to the theater. This was my first outing with Dan, he was still a new friend so I was a bit nervous hanging out with him as I wasn't quite sure how conversation would come.
We got to the theater and they said they had stopped showing Coraline in 3D and so we decided to look at the list of things that they were showing to see what we wanted to see. Another AMC theater close by was showing Madea Goes To Jail. I wasn't too keen on seeing that one, but there was no other movie to see that either one of us had not already seen.
We got to the second theater and were told that they had cancelled that slot's showing of MGTJ and so we tried to figure out what we should see. I had seen Taken, he had not. It was an action flick and since I did drag him all the way to LI from Queens I decided to see it again. I didn't mind, I liked it when I saw it first. So we purchased our tickets and headed in for the show. Conversation was fine and I enjoyed seeing the movie again.
After the movie, I drove us back to my home where his car was parked and we parted ways - him going home and me getting ready to go into the city to see my friends that night. It was Unlimites Mussels night at Le Petite Abeille. =)
Memories sometimes fade with time and so I am cataloging those memories here.
Ink Heart
I went to see Ink Heart at an AMC theater close by. This was my first experience at this little theater, it was once a Lowes and it only has a few screens. I went with my brother and my sister around 7pm at night. We were three of a few people sitting in the theater.
My brother was being antisocial, he was sitting in the back on his phone making stupid comments here and there. I'm not entirely sure why he came to the movies with us, but I am glad that we all got to spend some time together.
I've read Ink Heart by Cornelia Funke and I loved the series so I was rather excited to see it portrayed on film. I didn't quite get into the film as I did the book, but they stayed as true to the book as they could within the space of two hours.
Afterwards we went back home, it was a school night and they had school the next day.
Taken
I had seen this movie before the official release, I enjoyed it. When I saw it in theaters I wasn't really going to see it, I actually wanted to see Coraline in 3D. I was IMing with my friend Dan and he wanted to see Coraline as well, so he came over to my house and we drove to the theater. This was my first outing with Dan, he was still a new friend so I was a bit nervous hanging out with him as I wasn't quite sure how conversation would come.
We got to the theater and they said they had stopped showing Coraline in 3D and so we decided to look at the list of things that they were showing to see what we wanted to see. Another AMC theater close by was showing Madea Goes To Jail. I wasn't too keen on seeing that one, but there was no other movie to see that either one of us had not already seen.
We got to the second theater and were told that they had cancelled that slot's showing of MGTJ and so we tried to figure out what we should see. I had seen Taken, he had not. It was an action flick and since I did drag him all the way to LI from Queens I decided to see it again. I didn't mind, I liked it when I saw it first. So we purchased our tickets and headed in for the show. Conversation was fine and I enjoyed seeing the movie again.
